Fun for Foodies Vacations
Artisan Cheesemaker for a Day
Experience a full day of cheesemaking at Bonnieview Sheep Dairy in the heart of Vermont. They make small quantities of quality, fresh-milk farmstead cheeses. Cheesemaker Neil Urie makes an award-winning feta (which won third place in judging by the American Cheese Society), a highly regarded blue called Mossend Blue, and a hard alpine style cheese called Coomersdale. The season and demand for a particular cheese will determine what type of cheese you make during your visit. During your full day on the farm, you will meet the animals, make a batch of sheep's milk cheese, and learn about the aging process from Neil, a native Vermonter whose land has been in his family since 1890. You can even stay later to watch the evening milking if you desire. A wheel of the
cheese you helped to create will be shipped to you after ripening.
Available mid-May through mid-October, Mondays or Fridays. A minimum of one week's notice is required.
$245 per couple. This is best experienced with just one couple at a time, but if you have up to four in your party, it can be accommodated. (Location is 45 minutes away - a beautiful drive)
