The Innkeepers at
Stone Hill Inn
Stowe, Vt.- To paraphrase Wm. Shakespeare,
some innkeepers are born great, some achieve greatness, and
some have greatness thrust upon them. After the briefest
stay at Stowe's Stone Hill Inn, it's obvious that Amy and
Hap Jordan fall into the first two of those categories. They
were born to be great innkeepers and, equally, have achieved
great things with their unique creation, the Stone Hill Inn.
As Montreal Gazette writer Rochelle Lash put
it, "The Stone Hill Inn is a labor of
love-literally." Here's how it happened. Amy's family
ran a fine-dining restaurant in Virginia Beach. Hap came to
work as the chef. They fell quickly in love and discovered
that they shared a common dream: creating a unique,
luxurious inn catering to couples in search of romance. They
eventually settled on Stowe as the perfect home for such an
inn, and set about creating it. Amy, who had served as a
concierge for Marriott Hotels, was involved in all details
of design and decor. Her meticulous attention reveals
itself at every turn inside and out. Hap supervised
construction, ensuring that the final product was a
beautiful New England-style inn whose architecture was
consonant with Stowe's own rich historical traditions.
The Stone Hill Inn opened in 1998, and
quickly began earning rave reviews from the likes of the
Boston Globe, New York Times, Forbes.com, and Yankee
Magazine. Today, the inn is one of the crown jewels of famed
Stowe's lodges. It is known far and wide for its nine
luxurious rooms, elegant and unobtrusive service,
exquisitely landscaped grounds, and superb breakfasts and
hors d'oeuvres.

dream and, at the same time, helping couples realize dreams
of their own," says Amy.
Stowe is Vermont's premier four-season
resort town, and the Stone Hill Inn is Stowe's most
