STONE HILL INN WINTER STORY IDEAS

DISCOVER SNOWSHOEING
Stowe is the birthplace of modern snowshoeing. With many miles of trails, ranging from mild meadows to above-timberline extremes, Stowe is the perfect place to discover America's fastest-growing winter sport. And you can borrow snowshoes from the Stone Hill Inn to explore the winding, wooded trails there. How easy is snowshoeing? Pretty tough. Take two steps and you're an intermediate. Three and you're an expert.

CHECK OUT CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
In the 1950s, Stowe became the site of America's first cross-country ski destination. Today, with over 100 km. of beautifully groomed trails in three interlocking systems (and uncounted miles of backcountry trails), Stowe is one of North America's premier cross-country skiing resorts. The luxurious amenities of the Stone Hill Inn are the perfect reward after a long day of kicking, gliding, and diagonal striding.

SNOWBOARD HEAVEN
Jake Burton, the legendary creator of snowboarding, makes his home in Stowe, Vermont. That says something about the quality of snowboarding here on Mt. Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak. There's no better place to learn to ride, nor any mountain more challenging for boarders already expert. After a day of shredding the precipitous Front Four on Mt. Mansfield, wind down with locally brewed ales and outrageously tall tales in front of the Stone Hill Inn's massive stone fireplace.

EXTRA-SPECIAL SPECIALTY FOODS
How about a vacation dedicated to aerobic eating? Not a problem in Stowe, which is home to more superb specialty food purveyors than you can shake a wooden spoon at. Here's a sampling: Laughing Moon Chocolates' handmade truffles: Amaretto, Bailey's Irish Creme, Kahlua, White Chocolate, Grand Marnier, and Raspberry. Cabot Creamery's World Champion Cheddar Cheese. The Shed's microbrewed tawny ale. Harvest Market's Minced Chicken and Pistachio Salad. Cold Hollow Cider Mill's fresh-pressed apple cider and famous cider doughnuts. In fact, we have an entire series of vacation experiences dedicated to the enjoyment of local artisan foods: our Fun for Foodies Vacations. Take a private cooking lesson or chocolate dipping workshop, enjoy a snowshoe tour that ends with a fondue dinner, and visit and 8th-generation sugarmaker to learn how maple syrup is made. This may be the easiest vacation to get ready for.  Just don't eat for a month.

Stowe is Vermont's premier four-season resort town, and the Stone Hill Inn is Stowe's most luxurious inn. Highly recommended by both The New York Times and the Boston Globe, the Stone Hill Inn was chosen one of the top 12 B&B's in North America by Forbes.com and is a member of the Select Registry - Distinguished Inns of North America.
