Home / Experience / Curated Experiences / < Previous Experience Next Experience > Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival Annual Fall Festival in Stowe Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival Named USA Today’s Best Fall Festival in the Nation, the Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival is a one-of-a-kind autumn celebration that blends creativity, engineering, and good-natured competition. The festival centers around the sport of “pumpkin chuckin’,” where teams launch pumpkins for distance using handmade trebuchets (gravity-powered catapults inspired by medieval design). The spectacle is as thrilling as it is unforgettable. The current record soaring is an impressive 861 feet. Beyond the launches, the festival offers a lively village atmosphere with 40+ artisan and food vendors selling pottery, jewelry, maple products, honey, artwork, woodworking, photography, knitted goods, and more. It’s a joyful, family-friendly event that encourages hands-on creativity, teamwork, and playful rivalry, while supporting a meaningful cause. Proceeds from the Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival benefit the Clarina Howard Nichols Center, helping fund critical programs dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence across Vermont. From the delicious breakfast in an adorable light filled dining area, to the dual sided fireplaces in the rooms - everything at this inn is truly top notch. The owners seem like incredible people who have clearly put a lot of love and care into the small details that make this place so magical. This made for an amazing baby moon / 10 year anniversary celebration for my husband and I. We will never want to stay anywhere else when in Stowe! Thank you for the perfect weekend getaway! Google Review “Did Not Disappoint” Definitely a great place that I would recommend if you’re looking for some R&R! My husband and I chose Stone Hill Inn for our babymoon and it did not disappoint. Kristie and Todd were very hospitable, and we loved the atmosphere and our room (especially the Miles the Moose on the bed). Additionally, they arranged an in-room massage in front of the fireplace and it really made the trip that much more special and relaxing! “Perfection is the only way to describe it!” My wife and I decided to go to the Stone Hill Inn for our babymoon and we were not disappointed one bit. From the moment we arrived we felt right at home and knew we had picked the perfect place to relax and enjoy some quality time before our 1st baby arrived. More about Ballooning in Stowe Ballooning, as you probably know, is the oldest successful human-carrying flight technology. The first flight was a two-person journey on November 21, 1783 from Paris, France! Pasts guests have gone hot-air ballooning using our local balloon provider Jeff Snyder and his Above Reality balloon company. One couple celebrated their honeymoon by ascending 1,600 feet and traveling over 11 miles. Weather is always a factor and Jeff, designer and builder of balloons, is very conservative. He suggests not betting on only ONE day, but have at least two or three days from which to choose in order to be more assured of getting weather needed for a flight. According to Jeff, very few say that they are afraid once they are in the air. He says that it’s because unlike a cliff, there are no edges to look over when you are in a balloon. We had a chance to experience a taste of ballooning two weeks ago – 75 feet up from in one of Jeff’s tethered balloons. Quiet, soft, fresh perspective. This annual event is held in June.
